A partir del 1 de enero de 2009, en virtud del Convenio Internacional para la Seguridad de la Vida en el Mar (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, SOLAS), todos los buques de pasajeros, buques de alta velocidad, las unidades móviles de perforación mar adentro y buques de carga de igual o superior a 300 toneladas de arqueo bruto regulados por los 160 Gobiernos Contratantes de la Organización Marítima Internacional (OMI) deben ser seguidos con un Sistema de Identificación y Seguimiento de Larga Distancia (Long-Range Identification and Tracking system).
Cómo cumplir con la reglamentación de la OMI?
Esta reglamentación de la OMI se aplica a:
- Buques de carga de 300 toneladas de arqueo bruto o más.
- Buques de pasajeros, incluídas las naves de alta velocidad.
- Móviles autopropulsados de perforación en mar abierto (self-propelled Mobile Offshore Drilling Units, MODU).
Todas las naves construidas a partir del día 31 de diciembre de 2008 deben cumplir con esta normativa desde su fecha de fabricación.
